The Edgars (yes, named after Edgar Allen Poe) are the most prestigious award in mystery and thriller fiction, bestowed annually by the Mystery Writers of America at a gala in Manhattan. The Edgars have a storied legacy that goes back over seven decades. Past winners of Best First Novel include Tana French, Michael Connelly, James Patterson, and Patricia Cornwell.
